Dear AOL/Longwood Alumnae,

The AOL Alumnae Association would appreciate your input on two important matters that affect us all.

AOL Alumnae Association Board of Directors

At present, eight alumnae serve on the Board. That number has declined from 13 members in 2018. Our faithful President Marge Carroll (’54) recently retired from the position after countless years of service. Joan Radtke (‘67) is retiring from her role of treasurer. The Alumnae Association needs volunteers to serve on the Board as officers and reunion planners. With fewer board members, the survival of the Association is at risk. We need new board members and dedicated volunteers to continue.

Annual Reunions

Our annual reunions are both a celebration for alumnae and a fundraiser for the School Sisters of Notre Dame (SSND). Until Reunion 2024, reservations and raffle ticket sales covered expenses (newsletter, mailings and food) and helped fund our annual donations to the SSND. Reunion 2024 was the first time our expenses exceeded income. Only 136 alumnae attended in 2024. At least 200 alumnae attended each reunion before that.

We are exploring options for future reunions. With fewer board members and volunteers, and decreased attendance and income, what do you think of continuing reunions and raising funds for the SSND?

We are posting this message on general and class Facebook pages, on the AOL website, and sending it via mail. Please share this information with other AOL classmates and alumnae.

We are grateful for your support and generosity through the years, and welcome your thoughts on moving forward. Please email Mary T. Burke (mt@marytburke.com) with thoughts and suggestions.
